Where To Ask Legal Questions For Free

Did any classes prove especially useful as you started practicing?

In my opinion, the most important courses you may take are legal research and writing, both fundamental and advanced. I attended Cornell Law School in Ithaca, New York. At the moment, it had an intensivelegal research and writing program over winter break that served me well in summer positions because I had been one of the partners who could turn in a workmanlike memo without any additional editing.

Can you see a prejudice against people who attend law school later in life?

In short, yes, later-in-life students can sometimes feel a bit out of place with the younger audience. However they have a distinct advantage that a large part of the pupils that are straight-through do not--a life in the mirror. That expertise will assist from day one in law school. Professors will rely on and seek out those students to draw on the established work ethic of the student and that knowledge. When a résumé is reviewed by a law company from the student, it's going to have confidence the graduate is prepared to add value to its customers and the company and ready beyond the world. So go forth and conquer, regardless of what period in life you decided to make your way into this honorable career.

What do you enjoy most about your project? Least?

Though I like this practice because of its political character, I have also been frustrated by the paralysis in Congress which has meant that many parts of the immigration system continue to be underdeveloped. There are various cases where I can not provide customers with solutions that there's widespread recognition that repairs to the system are required.

Do you must push yourself into the ground the first couple of years of training to make it?

During a recent visit to the University of Chicago (where he educated), Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia emphasized the significance of work-life balance in the legal profession, advocating students to find a practice that "empowers a human existence" and allows for "time to attend to your other duties, to your family, to your own church or synagogue, to a area. All of those are actual responsibilities," he said. Indeed, Justice Scalia recounted his own experience as a young lawyer at Jones Day in Cleveland, "where he never felt pressure to operate every weekend."

What is the best way to get work?

I'm interested in hearing about an lawyer who is married and/or has children and how such an attorney manages family and work at the same time. What are the experiences of an lawyer who is married into a non-attorney?

Was there anything you wanted you'd have done differently in law school that you did not realize before you started to practice?

The same thing applies to my clinic. My office is open just four days every week, and I do not see clients in the evenings or on weekends. My program may not seem like everyone, but it works for my customers and me. Discover what works for youpersonally, and do not be afraid to stick with it, even if it is not exactly what everyone else is doing.
